Why Socialists Always Fail

Socialists Always Fail because their policies and practices defy reciprocal sociability.
Christopher Chantrill at American Thinker explains: "Social animals, humans are at our best when living in a world of reciprocal sociability; we are at our worst when issuing administrative orders to people that can't answer back."

"Capitalism is a social technology in the same way that the a trauma center is social technology.  You can let the technicians organize and run it, subject to law, or you can stick your political nose in and order the professionals around.  Just to show who's boss, you can mix in a special deal for a powerful interest.

Time and time again in the last century, liberals have insisted that only political power can deliver the right kind of service from business.  First we had to have a Federal Reserve System because you couldn't trust the Money Trust.  That worked out well.  The dollar is now worth 2.5 cents.

Then they decided that America's corporations had to have strong unions -- in 1935 right in the middle of a Great Depression.  That worked out well.  It plunged America into a second depression in 1937.

They decided that senior citizens had to have subsidized health care.  So now health care for seniors is eating the budget alive, and that's before the $40 trillion that's promised but not funded.

They wanted everyone to have "affordable housing."  Well, now they have their wish.  Pity they had to blow up the banking system to get there.

And these are the people that called President Bush clueless!"

The Selfish Pursuit of Feminism

I have written extensively on feminists, their selfish pursuits, and always at the sacrifice of their husbands and children.

Being a women is a privilege, especially in this century.

Feminists are all pent up and pruned faced from years of scrunching their faces whenever the subject of "man" is brought up.

Men are wonderful. Men are delightful. Men are normal and natural and great, and real women love men. While men make us crazy because we are so different (and visa versa), at least we do it together.

What do militant feminists have? Jane Fonda? Cindy Sheehan? Rosie O'Donnell? CA Senators Carole Migden and Sheila Kuehl (hags)? Other shriveled up, angry, women? Or the harlets in Hollywood who never marry the fathers of their children? Some role models...

Nasty feminists don't get the love... that is, they don't get the love they need. Maybe that's why they wear such ugly clothes. The fear of looking feminine and pretty must be dangerous to a feminist.

Being female, I am reasonably qualified to speak on the subject of feminism and how feminists have been bullying other women for more than 40 years... and because I am in my early/mid 40's, born in the early 1960's.

While I was raised by pretty traditional parents, I lived during a time when women were burning their bras, demanding equal pay for equal work and aborting their babies on demand. We young women were told that we had been oppressed and supressed by men for too long and women's rights were our legacy. Men had been manipulating us for years in order to get what they wanted - they always got what they wanted, and we women got nothing. We deserved equality; it was our entitlement.
In the column Girly Men and Girly Sons  I wrote about the feminization of boys in America at the hands of feminists:
I have written a great deal about the feminization of America's boys. While Feminists have become more masculine with every passing year, men and boys have become wimpy, feminized and afraid of their own shadows.
Between the teachers, pushy feminist mothers, lawyers and Hollywood depicting men as idiots, men have been relegated to the dufus  category and boys are cry babies. On the playground, boys can't play chase - someone might get hurt. Boys can't fight - someone might get hurt. They can't play on the monkey bars or jungle gyms, or play King of the Hill, or tackle soccer, or anything that might involve getting roughed up. Even in dodge ball, boys get in trouble for throwing the ball too hard at girls.

In Nasty Feminists Don't Get Love I describe man-hating women:
What happens to women who have shunned men and consequently shot themselves in the... not foot... well... let's just say they don't get any love.

Man haters have cooked their own gooses. But they don't cook either. Oops.

Hmmmm.

Man haters have cleaned their own clocks. Oh Darn. They don't clean.

Okay. Let's try again. Apparently the housekeeping analogies don't work with this subject.

Man haters have shot their... nope. That doesn't work.

Let's just say that man hating women are S. O. L. Does that work?

Man hating women have created so much inner hated for the traditional and natural man/women love relationship, that they are now alone, ugly, miserable, and forced to hang out together, forever complaining about what they are really missing in life.

Have you ever met a happy feminist? Nope. And I'll bet you won't.

In The Man/Woman Debate I addressed the changing roles of men and women:  Thanks to the feminists, women are so stressed out that the offspring are suffering, as is the future of society. Today's kids are as confused as their mothers. Men do not know which way is up - are they men or are they women with their waxings, men's pedicures, hair colorings and Botox injections for puffy eyes. The roles have been reversed in some couples, with women "wearing the pants," and men questioning their manhood.

When women embrace feminity and men, we are happy, we treat our loved ones with respect and adoration, and we don't compete with men.

Happy feminist - That's an oxymoron. Manly man - Now that makes sense.

Flag Folding Ceremony

I have attended several military retirement ceremonies as well as Eagle Scout courts, and witnessed the beautiful flag folding ceremony.

The following is the Flag Folding Ceremony and presentation:

Please watch and listen as this flag is unfolded in your honor. The canton of blue with its blazing white stars representing the states will shine forth, the bold red and white of the stripes representing the commitment of the first colonies will leap into your eye. The combined colors or red, white and blue representing hardiness and valor - purity and innocense - and finally, perserverance, vigilance and justice, will not only testify to the qualities of our nation, but will also give testimony of your service. Reflect, if you will, as this flag is unfurled and folded again, not only of the sacrifices and achievements of the men and women that have gone before you, but of your sacrifices and achievements. As this flag is unfolded, so should the memories of your career unfold within your mind.

As the flag is secured, please attend to the meaning of the folds for they represent the same principals on which our country was originally founded.

The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life.

The second is a symbol of our belief in eternal life.

The third is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing our ranks who gave a portion of their life to help attain peace throughout the world.

The fourth represents our weaker nature. As American citizens, trusting in God, it is to him we turn in times of peace as well as in times of war for his divine guidance.

The fifth fold is a tribute to our country; in the words of Stephen Decatur, "Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country right or wrong."

The sixth fold is where our hearts lie. It is with our hearts, we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The seventh fold is a tribute to our armed force. It is through the armed forces that we protect our country against all her enemies.

The eighth fold is a tributre to the mothers in our nation, for whom it flies on Mother's Day. It is through their nurturing care that the patriots of this nation have sprung.

The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood. It has been through their faith, love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

The tenth fold is to to father. He too, has given his sons and daughters in the defense of our country, and through his faith, love, loyalty, and devotion, patriots have been born.

The eleventh fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King Davis and King Solomon and glorifies God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The twelfth fold represents an emblam of eternity and glorifies God our father.

The thirteenth fold reminds us of the struggle of the thirteen colonies as they launched the grand experiment - a democracy we proudly call the United States of America.

When the flag is folded, the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our national motto, "In God We Trust."

After the flag is completely folded and tucked, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington and of all the soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen before us who have given life and liberty to preserve our freedom.

As you receive this symbol of our mighty nation, know that we wish you good luck and God speed.

Global Warming "Green Job" Myth

The world according to Henry Waxman kills millions of jobs, raises unemployment and inflation, increases the cost for electricity and gas, and the GDP drops. What a fun guy Waxman must be - and a Socialist. California has been prolifically producing some of the worst human beings to ever enter the Senate and Congress.

The Heritage Foundation and NCPA report on the Waxman/Markey bill on global warming:
Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.) modified their global warming proposal from the draft version published in March 2009.  For the most part, the changes focused on the distribution of the allowance revenue -- the equivalent of tax revenue, says the Heritage Foundation.

Though there was also a slight easing of targeted emissions reductions for 2020, which resulted in a marginally lower economic impact, the new distribution of allowances created a less efficient pattern of government expenditures and more than offset the gain from the lower cap for 2020.

According to researchers, by 2035, the Waxman-Markey bill would:

  • Destroy 1,105,000 jobs on average, with peak years seeing unemployment rise by over 2,479,000 jobs.
  • Raise electricity rates 90 percent after adjusting for inflation;
  • Raise inflation-adjusted gasoline prices by 74 percent.
  • Raise residential natural gas prices by 55 percent.
  • Raise an average family's annual energy bill by $1,500.
  • Increase inflation-adjusted federal debt by 26 percent, or $29,150 additional federal debt per person, again after adjusting for inflation.

Ultimately, this bill would result in government-set caps on energy use that damage the economy and hobble growth--the very growth that supports investment and innovation, says Heritage.

But is all of this economic pain justified by gains against global warming, asks Heritage?

  • Waxman-Markey raises energy prices by 55-90 percent.
  • These higher energy prices push unemployment up by 1,105,000 jobs. In aggregate, gross domestic product (GDP) drops by over $9.6 trillion.
  • The next generation will inherit a federal debt pumped up by $29,150 per person, say researchers.

London Erecting Statue Honoring Ronald Reagan

While American President Obama sent the bust of Winston Churchill back to England, London is erecting a statue of Ronald Reagan. http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/reagan_statue_london/2009/05/25/217918.html
Former U.S. President Ronald Reagan is being honored with a statue in central London. Westminster City Council says it has changed the usual rules to allow the memorial to be erected outside the current U.S. embassy in downtown London.

Supreme Court Nominee Bully?

President Obama's choice for Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotormayor is a Judicial activist and apparently, a racist. This is who America will have upholding the American Constitution? In her own words, Sotornayor stated, “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion [as a judge] than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.” — Judge Sonia Sotomayor, in her Judge Mario G. Olmos Law and Cultural Diversity Lecture at the University of California (Berkeley) School of Law in 2001.

And apparently, Judge Sotornayor has had plenty of her own decisions overturned. As reported on Michelle Malkin's site, "Judge Sotomayor’s personal views may cloud her jurisprudence. As Judge Sotomayor explained in a 2002 speech at Berkeley, she believes it is appropriate for a judge to consider their “experiences as women and people of color” in their decisionmaking, which she believes should “affect our decisions.”

"Only just recently, in Ricci v. DeStefano, Judge Sotomayor was chastised by fellow Clinton-appointee Jose Cabranes for going to extraordinary lengths to dispense with claims of unfair treatment raised by firefighters. Judge Sotomayor’s panel heard a case raising important questions under Title VII and equal protection law, but attempted to dispose of the firefighter’s arguments in a summary order, until called out by Judge Cabranes. The Supreme Court has agreed to review the case."

Substantial questions also persist regarding Judge Sotomayor’s temperament and disposition to be a Supreme Court justice. Lawyers who have appeared before her have described her as a “bully” who “does not have a very good temperament,” and who “abuses lawyers” with “inappropriate outbursts.”

The Powerline news site reports that the Obama talking point portraying Sotomayor as a "moderate" is probably the most interesting of the batch. This is not the view of lawyers who practice before her, as reflected in the Almanac of the Federal Judiciary. As for the claim that she agrees with Republican-appointed colleagues in 95 percent of cases, this statistic will need to be examined against those of other judges.

For in-depth information about Sotormayor, read Wendy Long at the Judicial Confirmation Network

California Supremes Uphold The Will of the Voters

The California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8 - finally a constitutional win for citizens and voters.

KCRA reports: "The state Supreme Court upheld a voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage Tuesday, but also decided that the estimated 18,000 gay couples who tied the knot before the law took effect will stay wed.

The 6-1 decision written by Chief Justice Ron George rejected an argument from gay rights activists that the ban revised the California constitution's equal protection clause to such a dramatic degree that it first needed the Legislature's approval.

The court said the people have a right, through the ballot box, to change their constitution.

"In a sense, petitioners' and the attorney general's complaint is that it is just too easy to amend the California constitution through the initiative process. But it is not a proper function of this court to curtail that process; we are constitutionally bound to uphold it," the ruling said."

"After comparing this initiative measure to the many other constitutional changes that have been reviewed and evaluated in numerous prior decisions of this court, we conclude Proposition 8 constitutes a constitutional amendment rather than a constitutional revision," the ruling said.

California Tax Revolt?

Assemblyman Chuck DeVore wrote an excellent analysis of Prop 1A and California's taxing structure and inevitable tax revolt, for Human Events:

In 1978, Californians were saddled with the third-highest tax burden in America. In a massive grassroots uprising, California voters passed Proposition 13, placing limits on property taxes and the ability of the legislature to raise taxes. In large measure, Prop. 13 catapulted former Gov. Ronald Reagan into the White House in 1980.

On May 19, California voters rejected five ballot measures aimed at allowing California to continue its overspending ways. These measures were designed to bring in an additional $6 billion in short-term revenue and $16 billion in additional taxes to close a massive budget deficit. Voters nixed Prop. 1A, the most important proposition, by almost a two-to-one margin. Prop. 1A was a two-headed monster that sought to extend the largest state tax increase in U.S. history for two years while enacting a weak and loophole-ridden budget-leveling tool that proponents touted as a “spending limit,” despite its being nothing of the sort.  Gov. Schwarzenegger and the four legislative leaders, the “Big Five,” put Prop. 1A together with only Sacramento interests in mind, thinking the public sector unions that might be afraid of even a modest budget restraint tool would be bought off by the prospects of higher taxes. It mostly worked, with some unions enthusiastically supporting Prop. 1A and only a few opposed. But the Big Five forgot the most important special interest: the voters.

Obama Delivers USNA Commencement Speech

President Obama delivered his first commencement speech to a military academy, to the USNA Class of 2009.

At least he can deliver a speech. I hope and pray that when my son graduates in 2011, we are not stuck with Joe Biden.

Midshipmen, I’m told that the extra ribbon on your chest is for the honor you earned, for only the second time in the storied history of the Naval Academy—the Navy’s Meritorious Unit Commendation Award. So I’ve consulted with Admiral Fowler. And I can make this announcement. For all you Midshipmen returning next fall, I hereby grant you something extra—an extra weekend.

I am honored to be with you today. Because of all the privileges of serving as President, I have no greater honor than serving ...as your Commander-in-Chief.

Cheney Delivers A Whoopin'

It was Dick Cheney the man, the selfless statesman, the grownup, versus Obama, the boy politician, the narcissist, the whiner yesterday.

Obama in perpetual campaign mode, and it's-all-about-me mode, demonstrated that he's not ready for prime time. "The third decision that I made was to order a review of all pending cases at Guantanamo. I knew when I ordered Guantanamo closed that it would be difficult and complex."   He is also a liar. "Now, several weeks ago, as part of an ongoing court case, I released memos issued by the previous administration's Office of Legal Counsel. I did not do this because I disagreed with the enhanced interrogation techniques that those memos authorized, and I didn't release the documents because I rejected their legal rationales -- although I do on both counts. I released the memos because the existence of that approach to interrogation was already widely known, the Bush administration had acknowledged its existence, and I had already banned those methods. The argument that somehow by releasing those memos we are providing terrorists with information about how they will be interrogated makes no sense. We will not be interrogating terrorists using that approach. That approach is now prohibited."

Cheney, speaking about policy and not himself stated: "On his second day in office, President Obama announced that he was closing the detention facility at Guantanamo. This step came with little deliberation and no plan. Their idea now, as stated by Attorney General Holder and others, is apparently to bring some of these hardened terrorists into the United States. On this one, I find myself in complete agreement with many in the President's own party. Unsure how to explain to their constituents why terrorists might soon be relocating into their states, these Democrats chose instead to strip funding for such a move out of the most recent war supplemental."

And Cheney cut-to-the-chase: "In the category of euphemism, the prizewinning entry would be a recent editorial in a familiar newspaper that referred to terrorists we've captured as, quote, "abducted." Here we have ruthless enemies of this country, stopped in their tracks by brave operatives in the service of America, and a major editorial page makes them sound like they were kidnap victims, picked up at random on their way to the movies."

Another Stuck-On-Stupid NYTimes Moment

Newsbusters reports The New York Times is still having difficulty dealing with democracy in California -- namely the state's unique ballot initiatives, which sometimes produces results inconvenient to a liberal agenda. First it was last year's surprise passage of Proposition 8, a ban on gay marriage that threw the Times for a loop.

Thursday's front-page story by Jennifer Steinhauer, "In California, Democracy Doesn't Pay the Bills," came on the heels of her equally insulting Wednesday piece, "Calif. Voters Reject Measures to Keep State Solvent."

Justice Hillary?

I can barely choke out the words "Justice Hillary," "Your Honor," or "Madam Justice."  Many people wondered why Hillary so compliantly dropped out of the Presidential race however, it was obvious some deal was struck.

David Usher addresses this uncany turn of events: During the elections, a mysterious transition occurred. Hillary went from slinging brickbats one day to being submissive and agreeable to everything Obama said the next – gazing upon him with eyes not unlike a teenage girl fulminating about her first dream prom date.

Hillary knew that being President would subject her to perennial withering assaults from the media and Republicans in a never-ending replay of the Clinton-era scandals. Our formidable economic problems were enough to cause even a confident person to have second thoughts about being the leader of this pack of rabid cats. Hillary wants total unquestioned power and autonomy -- not qualities inherent in the presidency.

I shudder at the thought of Hillary Clinton on the Supreme Court. Her agenda is not just the usual screamingly liberal, leftist cause; it's all about power and control for Hillary. And no accountability. We couldn't get rid of her.

The Downgrading American Lifestyle

There is no getting around the fact that more people die in small cars.

The National Academy of Sciences, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, Congressional Budget Office and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have separately concluded in multiple studies dating back about 20 years that fuel-economy standards force automakers to build more small cars, which has led to thousands more deaths in crashes annually.

And now, in his continuing quest to lower everyone's lifestyle in America, the Obama administration's sweeping fuel-economy and emissions initiative announced Tuesday reopens a fierce debate over tradeoffs between fuel economy and auto safety (USA Today)

As privately owned Auto dealerships all over the country are being forced to close because of Obama's government takeover of Chrysler and General Motors, this latest move is evidence of the control that environmentalists weild over the Democrats and Obama administration, and comes as automakers' dire financial straits are forcing safety to a back burner. (USA Today)

While elected Democrats continue to enhance their lifestyles in hired cars, private planes, drivers, limos, paid-for dinners and vacations, working Americans and small business owners are being forced to cut staff, cut pay, give up retirement, forgo salaries and the like. And now, the Obama administration is going to force us to give up our SUV's, trucks, large sedans and cars.

No. I will not. This is not the USSR (until now).  A concern for automakers is that if buyers return to their historical preference for bigger vehicles, manufacturers might end up behind the mileage and emissions curve and in danger of missing the mandated goal. That could force car companies to push smaller cars into the market.

"When regulations establish requirements on what people buy, not what we make, if people aren't buying those, we have to offer incentives," says Sue Cischke, Ford Motor's vice president for environment and safety. "We can't force people to buy what they don't want to buy." (USA Today)

I believe in the law of physics and drive a good-sized car for a reason. I also pay for it - gas, insurance, & upkeep. Because I maintain it wel, it is not polluting the way so many of the beater cars driven by low-life are... but are not required to register or maintain.

If the American government wants to see a revolution, keep it up. We are not running or cowering. We are not going to give up our safety, security or our hard-earned homes, cars, trucks, sports cars or RV's.

Sacramento City Council Performance

Last night as I sat in the audience watching the Sacramento City Council perform, I felt that I'd been ripped-off. The performance was bush-league, and not even worthy of  Middle-school production.

For several hours, they demonstrated how ill-prepared most of them are. They demonstrated that they prefer to let "staff" make decisions for them (Lauren Hammond). Council members demonstrated that they are not engaged at all in the issues (Rob Fong). They demonstrated that they are beholden to local union 39 (Ray Tretheway). Tretheway even demonstrated that he is oblivious to the conflict of interest he has as Executive Director of the Sacramento Tree Foundation, as he talked down to a City planner about the "tree canopy" and "Urban forest" he thought should be included in the updated Urban City design plan for downtown. As I sat there trying to take notes while Tretheway spoke, I found the task nearly impossible; he never completes a sentence of thought.

Councilman Kevin McCarty, Cohn  and Sandy Sheedy made sense a couple of times - McCarty when he pressed the City Finance Director for information about whether or not the City was laying off more line workers and saving management jobs and salaries - she could not answer. Sheedy made snese when she refused to vote for an intent motion for the budget as proposed.  All of the other council members voted to pass it. Cohn pressed city staff on a bogus contract.

One item of interest on the agenda was the Old Sacramento Tour Boat Interim Lease Agreement. A member of the audience and his attorney addressed the Council, asking why the bid process had not been open as they (Commodore Events) would have bid on it and probably won the bid instead of mega-tour boat company, Hornblower (who operates Alcatraz and Ellis Island tour boats). It was abundantly clear that there was only the one "bid" and the process had been done hurridly in order to award it to Hornblower, but not just the "interim" contract. Apparently Hornblower Company was going to be allowed to sign a long-term contract courtest of staff's recommendations - "5-10 years" as the city staff employee said sheepishly. She became defensive when Councilman Cohn asked her instead to consider a 2-year contract as the RFP for the process was already 5 years old. When  The Mayor asked the City Manager to step outside and meet with city staff and the disgruntled party to see if they coudl come to a compromise.

The groups eventually came back in and the calendar item was resumed, and promptly passed a unanimous vote of council. I wonder what went on in the back room to appease the attorney and his client...

Councilwoman Hammond on several occasions, challenged her colleagues on their questioning of city staff procedures saying "we already proved that when we don't let staff do their jobs, we are wrong." She clearly likes to have staff do her job for her as well. If the City council is not challenging city staff procedures, recommendations and policy, who will? The City Manager? I don't think so.

Councilman Rob Fong never once participated in the meeting, and he looked like a clown, dressed in a neon tie and even brighter shirt. Four audience members spoke about the need to maintain Land Park, and Fong never even acknowledged their presence, and never uttered a word. His lack of engagement in his own neighborhood is shameless.

Councilwoman Bonnie Pannell was also uncharacteristically quiet.

The bulk of the audience members were present to argue budget cuts in park maintenance, speaking eloquently to a future of closed park bathrooms, weeds and uncut grass, garbage problems, crime, public urination, and a myriad of other problems that will arise if parks are allowed to degrade. Additionally, one speaker presented seven different options for cuts and budget reforms, for which both McCarty and the Mayor thanked the group, pointing out that they never recieve alternate proposals when city residents show up to challenge budget cuts. www.rescuesacramentoparks.blogspot.com

The Sacramento City Council is woefully inadequate on financial and business issues. They only seem to perk up when social programs are the issue. There are moments when several of the members seem to grasp the issue - Cohn with the tour boat issue, McCarty with the budget issue, Sheedy refusing to vote on the budget without more information - but mostly they sit back and allow the City Manager, City Attorney and various City staffers do the work for them, without ever verifying issues themselves, or even being prepared ahead with pertinent questions.

The Mayor is clearly only one voice, one vote, on the Council. After witnessing several council meetings lately, more than ever, Sacramento needs to change the City Charter and make the Mayor the CEO of the City. Last night's meeting would have gone very differently had a CEO been in charge. And we desperately need to elect council members who understand and are even vaguely familiar with finance and business.
